How Do I Apply for Medicare?

- Go to gov
- Click “Sign Up for Medicare”
- Click “Apply Online” (this will open a new window)
- Click “ I understand and agree to the above statements” – then hit “Next”
- Click “Start a New Application”
- Click “ I am Applying for Myself”
- Select “Yes” if you already have a Social Security account set-up. If you do not – take a moment to create your personal Social Security account.
- On the login page, choose “Sign-In with gov”

What we typically see is that even very astute clients can feel anxious clicking through the screens and worrying that they will make a costly mistake. And they are right to be cautious – Medicare decisions can be difficult (and in some cases irreversible).
If you feel that you would be more comfortable talking to a representative while you are making these elections – you can call to speak with a representative between the hours of 8:00am – 7:00pm (Monday through Friday) at 1-800-772-1213 or visit a local Social Security Administration office near your home.
You can also go directly to the Medicare Helpline at 1-800-MEDICARE (24 hours a day, 7 days a week except for some federal holidays) or go to their website at medicare.gov.
