How Do I Apply for Medicare?

1. Go to gov
2. Click “Sign Up for Medicare”
3. Click “Apply Online” (this will open a new window)
4. Click “ I understand and agree to the above statements” – then hit “Next”
5. Click “Start a New Application”
6. Click “ I am Applying for Myself”
7. Select “Yes” if you already have a Social Security account set-up. If you do not – take a moment to create your personal Social Security account.
8. On the login page, choose “Sign-In with gov”
9. Sign-in and complete the

If everything goes smoothly – enrollment should be done within 10 to 15 minutes.

What we typically see is that even very astute clients can feel anxious clicking through the screens and worrying that they will make a costly mistake. And they are right to be cautious – Medicare decisions can be difficult (and in some cases irreversible).

If you feel that you would be more comfortable talking to a representative while you are making these elections – you can call to speak with a representative between the hours of 8:00am – 7:00pm (Monday through Friday) at 1-800-772-1213 or visit a local Social Security Administration office near your home.

You can also go directly to the Medicare Helpline at 1-800-MEDICARE (24 hours a day, 7 days a week except for some federal holidays) or go to their website at medicare.gov.
